An interesting post from New Music Strategies…
What should the price of recorded music be?

Derek Sivers recently posted a free e-book on his site, sivers.org. Until I’m knowledgeable enough in the areas of music marketing, promotion, etc….I’ll be referring you to the experts.
So do yourself a favor and check this e-book out!

Andrew Dubber of New Music Strategies had his “The 20 Things You Must Know About Music Online” translated to Chinese, which is cool enough…but he also says there will soon be a “sequel” to that e-book…and another 100-item e-book.

So what do you do if you’re totally new to the world of setting up a presence online? Check out this link, that’s what. ![]()
So what should be on my MySpace page?

I’d suggest reading this, if you’re interested in setting yourself up on MySpace…or if you’re already there and need to tweak things.
Every now and then, there are going to be times when I’ll link to a post I think you should read. There are many sources out here on the internet, and many people who are a lot better than I am in providing indie music advice…hey, I’m just an indie artist finding his way in the music world and having a great time doing it!
I’ve got a bunch of blogs in my blogroll…a couple blogs you should be checking out on a regular basis are Derek Sivers - he’s the founder of CD Baby, in case you didn’t know - and New Music Strategies, which is a blog I found out about through CD Baby. It’s headed up by Andrew Dubber, and he’s got all kinds of great ideas there, too. He’s even got a free e-book, “The 20 Things You Must Know About Music Online”. I found out about that through Derek Sivers and CD Baby, too…and reading that e-book is how I finally got around to blogging myself. See how this all works out? ![]()
How do I find time for the internet?

In this high-tech, crazy-paced online world, it’s hard to have some time for yourself. This blog link might help out a bit.
I’m in the midst of re-organizing my home studio. My home studio doesn’t consist of much, and has essentially been the same for several years - a Yamaha SY77 synth, a Dell PC, and whatever other old school sounds I can channel into my computer. However, I like to think that I get a lot of mileage out of the tools available to me.
You may have read that I’m currently working on some new music, a project tentatively titled Antarctica: The Last Continent. I was there this past January (Summertime there!), and I’m trying to express what I saw and how I felt musically. Sounds easy - just layer some synth pads, maybe some string accompaniment, etc….but I’ve found that my layout was no longer conducive to efficient composing. So, I’m cleaning things up a bit in the studio. It’s amazing what a little organization can do.
Once you de-clutter your workspace, it’s a lot easier to get down to business - your mind de-clutters as well.
