Print Advertising

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Some interesting thoughts on print advertising from a fellow indie musician. I myself haven’t done any print advertising, so I’m curious to see how this works out. My guess is, if you’re looking to advertise, it make sense to target your niche audience, just as Cameron has done by placing an ad in a jazz magazine.

Here’s hoping that it leads to lots of sales!

Can a musician work 4 hours a week and make a living? I would doubt it, but reading this post makes one think…

Derek Sivers Sells CD Baby

Friday, August 8th, 2008

So, you probably all know by now that Derek Sivers decided to sell CD Baby to Disc Makers. It seemed that many indie artists were a bit alarmed by this, but if you read about it on Derek’s blog, you’ll see that he hardly has been at CD Baby since ‘02. So, there obviously was - and still is - a great team there to help all of us indies out.

So, no worries - CD Baby should continue to thrive under the direction of Tony Van Veen and Disc Makers. Derek is moving on to other things, you can check them out here.

I need an ATM for my brain

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Ever have one of those writer’s blocks? You know, when you’re stuck and can’t quite move on? Well, I’m currently having one as far as creating music goes. Things can be going quite smoothly - melodies come easy, basslines unfold with no problem, then…nothing. :( What I could really use is an ATM for my brain. :) Need to release these CDs!

I’ll give you a call…oh, wait - I’ll text you instead

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Old School PhoneIsn’t it strange how we communicate these days? I was just thinking about this…it wasn’t too long ago that we had to find a pay phone, pull the car over, and find .20 or .25 cents to make a call. There may have been a few “mobile” phones, but they were hundreds of dollars and the size of a world almanac. Then, cell phones worked their way in. I can’t believe how many people are using these things. Sure, I have one for emergency use, but the next time you’re stopped at a light, take a look at how many people are talking on their cell as they’re driving by. It’s crazy.

From cells came texting, blackberries, iPhones…online communication - blogs (hey, you’re reading one, what do you know?! :) ), social networking sites, Twitter…we seem to be communicating more than ever. Why does the world still seem so disconnected? Is anyone listening on the other end?
